Supporting the whole person, the whole family, and the whole community.

July is . . .

National Minority
Mental Health
Awareness Month

Healing Communities Starts with Helping One Another.

At Helping Communities Help Themselves (HCHT), we believe that strong communities are built through compassion, education, and service. During National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we are reminded that mental wellness is an essential part of overall health and that healing often begins with connection.

Many individuals and families in our communities are navigating stress, grief, trauma, caregiving responsibilities, and life's everyday challenges. Through outreach, education, advocacy, and partnerships, HCHT is committed to creating safe spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered.

This month, we encourage everyone to:

    •    Check in on a friend, neighbor, or loved one.

    •    Practice self-care and prioritize your mental well-being.

    • Learn about community resources available to support individuals and families.

    •    Help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health by encouraging open, compassionate conversations.

At HCHT, our mission has always been to strengthen communities by helping people access the knowledge, resources, and support they need to live healthier lives.

Together, we can build healthier minds, stronger families, and more resilient communities—because when communities help themselves, everyone thrives.

Not Just a Nonprofit — A Movement. A Mission. A Holistic Health Empire

Our work is built on supporting the whole person:

    •    Physical Health – education, prevention, and access

    •    Mental & Emotional Wellness – support, healing, and guidance

    •    Family & Community Support – real people showing up for each other

    •    Empowerment – helping individuals help themselves

“It’s a Family Affair”

This is the heartbeat of our empire.

Family is not limited to blood — it includes:

The church, school family, neighbors, mentors, and the broader community

When people are supported like family, lives change.

Our Vision

To walk alongside communities, especially those most impacted by violence, inequity, and disinvestment, and build spaces where healing is possible, leadership is cultivated, and systems are transformed.

We envision a future where families and communities are equipped, empowered, and united in creating healthier lives—together. Guided by trust, compassion, and a commitment to justice, Helping Communities Help Themselves strives to be a national model for community-rooted health empowerment, where every household has the tools and support needed to thrive.

Our Mission

We are a community-rooted organization committed to improving health, healing, and hope in historically underserved populations. With a focus on culturally tailored approaches, we deliver programs and resources that tackle social determinants of health, from mental wellness to chronic disease prevention and beyond. We are dedicated to advancing health equity and strengthening communities from within. Rooted in the values of family, culture, and connection, we deliver culturally responsive education, outreach, and advocacy that empower individuals and families—especially in underserved areas—to take charge of their health and future.

Founded by Dr. Tonya S. Roberson, our work blends evidence-based public health strategies with lived community experience. Our family-centered model recognizes that real change happens when generations come together to support, educate, and uplift one another. We don’t just serve communities—we grow with them.
