Our Vision
To walk alongside communities, especially those most impacted by violence, inequity, and disinvestment, and build spaces where healing is possible, leadership is cultivated, and systems are transformed.
We envision a future where families and communities are equipped, empowered, and united in creating healthier lives—together. Guided by trust, compassion, and a commitment to justice, Helping Communities Help Themselves strives to be a national model for community-rooted health empowerment, where every household has the tools and support needed to thrive.
Our Mission

We are a community-rooted organization committed to improving health, healing, and hope in historically underserved populations. With a focus on culturally tailored approaches, we deliver programs and resources that tackle social determinants of health, from mental wellness to chronic disease prevention and beyond. We are dedicated to advancing health equity and strengthening communities from within. Rooted in the values of family, culture, and connection, we deliver culturally responsive education, outreach, and advocacy that empower individuals and families—especially in underserved areas—to take charge of their health and future.
Founded by Dr. Tonya S. Roberson, our work blends evidence-based public health strategies with lived community experience. Our family-centered model recognizes that real change happens when generations come together to support, educate, and uplift one another. We don’t just serve communities—we grow with them.
